Beginner Rider

Whether you are young or old, riding can be a very rewarding, valuable, character-building exercise, especially for children and young people. Our beginning riders range from 4 to over 60 years old. As with a bicycle, the beginning rider first has to learn, feel and understand how the horse moves and how he/she can balance on such a big moving animal. At AAES, this happens with a well-trained school horse on a lunge line under the one-on-one guidance of an experienced trainer.

Intermediate Rider

The intermediate rider has learned the basics of positioning his/her body most effectively and is ready to learn how to influence and guide the horse through proper position (seat) and timing. As with the beginning rider, the intermediate rider is matched with a well-trained school horse and experienced trainer. In addition to the basic riding skills, the student is introduced to the various tools, aids, and theoretical knowledge which will prepare them to move onto advanced status.

Advanced Rider

The advanced rider has established an independent, stable seat and is now ready to advance to the more difficult disciplines (Dressage, Jumping, Eventing, etc.). During this phase of training the advanced rider will be given the tools, aids and teaching to be of benefit for the horse’s performance. For more information on the advanced rider programs refer to the advanced rider page and the brochures on the Rider Certificate and Theory Programs (which can be found on the “ADVANCED PROGRAMS” of the website) .
