Whether you're riding one of our well-trained school horses, or are mounted on your own...
...the Academy's many different lesson options are available to you for whether you choose the Rider Certificate Program or the Open Enrollment Program . Our well-educated staff members will guide you through the entire process of setting up your personalized curriculum. You will have the opportunity to maximize your learning potential by choosing from, and/or combining, the following lesson options:
All sessions are taught with dedication, enthusiasm and patience by our certified trainers and are offered in Dressage, Jumping, and Three-Day Eventing.
The Academy offers primarily two different packages to choose from: the. Once you've decided which training program is right for you, you'll be able to choose from several different kinds of lessons including:
- Lunge Lessons
- Group Lessons
- Semi-Private Lessons
- Private Lessons
|
- Beginner Lunge Line Lessons - This is the place to start for anyone looking to start his or her riding endeavors. These 30 or 45 minute private lessons focus on helping the beginner rider gain confidence on the horse's back and control over what he does. Emphasis is placed on developing your balance, coordination, and an overall correct position. The skills and confidence you will build during these lessons will allow you to progress into group lessons or safely venture out on your own with a well-developed seat.
- Group Lessons - These are 45-minute group lessons of 3-6 people on average. Group lessons are a great way to get instruction if you thrive on learning in groups! During parts of the lesson, the instructor dedicates his/her attention to each rider individually, but typically the group as a whole will work together. Different levels of group lessons exist, ensuring that everyone participating is matched with others of equal knowledge so no one is left scrambling to catch up or bored because they've already learned the lesson's objectives. Every member of the group lesson is actively challenged to do his/her best!
- Semi-Private Lessons - These are 45-minute lessons with two people. Semi-private instruction offers the advantage of having the nearly undivided attention of the instructor, while at the same time helping and being helped by your riding partner. Wonderful for friends or folks at an equal stage in their learning process.
- Private Lessons - Private lessons are available in 30 or 45-minute increments where the sole focus of the instructor is on you. Great for the serious rider who is looking to advance their course of study as quickly as possible.
- Exercise Lunge Lessons - During these 30 or 45 minute private lessons you'll do exercises on horseback, focusing on building balance, strength, and harmony with your horse. The lessons start in walk, and progress to trot and canter, sometimes without stirrups. This is a wonderful lesson tool that has received rave reviews in the past and continues to be a favorite.
- Field Hunter Balance - Field hunting requires the same basic principles of balance, control, and finesse that all the other disciplines require; but they are often overlooked in the eagerness to get out onto the field. Unfortunately, many injuries have resulted from this lack of basic knowledge and skill. These 45 minute lessons are designed specifically for the Hunter, and will provide the understanding needed to not only find the fox or win the course, but to do so safely.
- Quadrille - The Academy offers a student quadrille every session. Quadrilles are ridden by a group of 8 or 12 people who ride a customized and choreographed course, performing intricate and beautiful interfacing patterns, like a military drill team; all this while riding to music. This is a wonderful opportunity for the artistically and musically inclined to combine their love of horses with their love of the performing arts. The Quadrille Team meets weekly for 60 minutes.

To meet the physical demands necessary to become an effective rider, the Academy also offers the following courses designed to supplement your equestrian education on horseback. These classes are included in the Rider Certificate Program or available for individual attendance through the Open Enrollment Program.
- Balance and Physiology of the Human Body - In order to achieve the desired reaction from your horse, you need to understand not only what physically needs to be done, but also how that reaction takes place physiologically. Through these classes, you'll develop an understanding of how the horse reacts, what factors impact that reaction, and how you can positively influence those factors. Essential elements needed to be able to apply your aids correctly, such as balance and timing on the rider's part, will also be discussed in detail.
- Exercise - Your instructor will meet with you to devise a specialized program that fits your unique needs and abilities. You'll be able to ask questions on how to strengthen certain parts of your body, and how the development of this internal strength will help you on horseback. The Academy has an exercise room located under the same roof as the barn, and currently the exercise class is held Saturday mornings at 9:00am.
- Personal Health and Nutrition - Classes are held regularly and will give you a basic understanding of how food and nutrition play a role in your body's functioning and muscle development. Knowing how easily a busy life can get out of hand, emphasis is placed not only on how to eat healthily, but also how to redirect your lifestyle to allow time for healthful activities.
